This last year has presented an incredible mix of challenges. Covid 19 has chipped away in so many different areas and has certainly taken its toll. Without doubt change has happened to almost all of us and we have had to juggle such uncertainty, lack of security, emotions and responsibility at home and work. It has been exhausting but, in the main, we have done it. Now is a good time to think about moving forward.
Although we are clearly not through the woods and for many Christmas this year will be far from ideal, the signs are beginning to look more optimistic as we move into 2021. This is a window of opportunity to think about how we transission beyond all this change and how we want our future to be – starting with ourselves first and I would like to offer you a few coaching thoughts and questions to think about.
Before you settle in to the Christmas period, I really encourage you to set aside a little bit of time to reflect on the past year and to think about what you have learned about yourself and your priorities. Think about how the impossible has become possible and your ability to tackle and deal with all the change you have experienced. What has worked well? What are you proud of? What is important to you now?
Having reflected on this, start to focus on what you want to take forward into 2021, perhaps any learned strengths, new habits or behaviours that have served you well. What do you want to do/achieve in 2021? Be realistic but specific and understand why these achievements are important to you. What steps do you need to take to get there and what resources or support do you need? When you look back again this time next year – what will success look and feel like for you? What excites you about that?
And finally, Don’t wait for the New Year, what one step can you take now, this year, even if it is a teeny, tiny one that will set you on your journey for 2021? You don’t need to wait for 100% before you start. After all, it is not just the will to win but the courage to begin!
Perhaps if you lack clarity then working with might coach help? If you or someone you know would like some more information about how a coach can give you independent, non-judgmental and confidential support in defining and achieving your goals then do get in touch for a no commitment chat.
Well done for getting through this year – give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back! I hope you have a safe, healthy and Happy Christmas and I look forward to walking, talking and moving forward with you again in 2021.
